Monthly Missions

Every month during the year of 30, I am developing a new Monthly Mission. Some will only be carried out for a month, some for the remainder of the year. These missions will be things that I am working on, whether it's from the Year of 30 or just in general.

September:
No eating out at restaurants for 1 month. Whew, this is tougher than I thought. I kind of forgot about it for the first couple days of September and I started on the 4th. It's only been 3 days and I'm struggling. It's not that I go out to dinner frequently, it's just that eating lunch out on King St. with my friends is so much easier! And I don't even want to talk about how much I DON'T want to make my lunch every morning. So. Lazy. But anyway, I have prepared some meals that have gone in the freezer, so hopefully this will help! Keep your fingers crossed for me y'all!

I haven't quite figured out what the monthly missions are going to be for the next 10 months yet. I know that I want them to generally have a positive impact on my general well-being and the Earth. So far, my proposed timeline is as such.

August: no purchasing of clothes, shoes, or accessories unless previously owned.
September: No eating out at restaurants for 1 month
October: No Starbucks for the rest of the Year of 30
November: Replace all the cleaning supplies in my home with organically home-made products
December: Craft or hand-make all Christmas presents
January: drink only water for 1 month
February: Begin my first garden, with my own compost for fertilizer
March: Spring Cleaning
April: no alcohol for 1 month
May: follow a budget of spending $200 for the month. Put everything else in savings!
June: finish all unfinished items from the Year of 30 list!

August: (update)
August is a big one. Probably the biggest. Starting on August first, through the remainder of The Year of 30 (June 23, 2013), I am committing to no shopping. *gasp* I can hear you all saying, "Wait, what???" Well here's the thing. I don't necessarily mean no shopping. What I mean, is that for the next 10 months I will not purchase a single new item of clothing, accessory, or pair of shoes, unless it is an extraordinary circumstance. This means that Target is off limits. Goodwill and secondhand stores are not. So how am I doing on this? Well it's been over a month and I'm doing...alright. I bough a new pair of jeans because I split open the rear on my favorite jeggings. Yeah, I said jeggings. And a necklace and a bracelet. Total cost of spending $40. Not too bad all things considered, but I need to be better. I very easily could have gone to Goodwill or another resale shop for the jeggings. Commitment to do better.
